It appears that James Gunn has developed a bond with the film’s characters, notably Rocket. He even said in an interview that Rocket, in his opinion. Plays a crucial function for the Guardians and is thought of as the trilogy’s main character.

“For me, Rocket’s story came first, and then I paid attention to everyone else. Rocket has always been the heart of the Guardians of the Galaxy for me, and this fully satisfies that. He is the series’ unacknowledged protagonist. I opted to make this movie because I felt strongly that Rocket’s tale deserved to be revealed because Vol 2 left it unresolved. So, that is the most crucial factor.
