Arjun Kapoor recently starred in a movie after a while and we’re gonna review it. Directed by Ashwan Bhardwaj and written by Asman and Vishal Bhardwaj. In the film, we get to see a group of people behind a van that transfers money to the ATM machine. Whether they will successfully rob the van or in the process lose their lives forms the crux of the story. Kuttay is a dark comedy, a heist movie.

For this kind of movie to work the punch lines and the chemistry between the characters must work. Both things are completely missing from most parts of the film. The scenes that are designed to infuse humor fall flat. The lines are not even half as catchy as they were in Vishal Bhava’s Kamine. There is only one scene in the entire film where I really laughed in which a van driver says, “Whatsapp group banakar uska photo bheju?”. Secondly the chemistry between the characters is also zero.

Arjun Kapoor as Vincent from Pulp Fiction

Let’s take Arjun Kapoor and Kumud Mishra’s characters, they can be compared to Vincent and Jules of Pulp Fiction. But the chemistry between them never gets established. Similarly, all other characters are half-baked. As a result, we never connect with their journey. The saddest part of this film is, so many talented actors have been just not utilized like Tabu, Konkana Sen Sharma, Nasaruddin Shah, and Radhika Madan. And why is there an Anurag Kashyap cameo in the film? This kind of situation can be best defined by the Welcome line, “Ye raaz bhi us hi ke sath dafan hogya.”

Conclusions

The story is told in chapters like Kill Bill and Black Friday. But they are unevenly distributed. The film is around two hours long. since the writing is weak, I was bored and I started paying attention to the nitty-gritty in each scene. Paying homage to your favorite filmmaker is good, but it shouldn’t be done just for the sake of doing it.

There is excessive use of background music. In the entire film overall Kuttey can be best described in a single line, all bark no bite. thank you so much for staying till the end, stay tuned for more filmy updates on Bollywood Friday.
