Double XL stars Huma Qureshi and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead roles. The movie is about two girls Rajshree coming from Meerut who wants to be a sports presenter. She keeps getting rejected from the interview because of being overweight. Then there is Saira who has a six-pack abs boyfriend who cheats on her and suddenly her plan to make a fashion Vlog in London comes to a halt. how these two women meet each other and how they support each other and change their own mindset and the mindset of the rest of the world forms the Crux of the story Double XL.
Double XL is the only film in my life where I haven’t noticed a single positive factor. First, let’s talk about the problematic message. While the film tries to portray body positivity. In order to do so it antagonized a specific gender body shaming is a gender-neutral thing and it happens with men. Also, this kind of problem can be seen in most Hindi films if a film is about women’s empowerment then all the male characters present in the world are villains this kind of subject needed proper research and a little more sensitive treatment.
Problems with Double XL
The movie Double XL follows the classic Hollywood template. A girl from a small town, with a tacky father and sympathizing mother who just wants her daughter to get married. The movie gets soo boring and predictable that the audience can literally guess what the next dialogue is. Meanwhile Comic punch lines are ineffective and poor. Lines like, ‘Hum Bhok rhe hai, aur aap chonk bhi nhi rhe,’ makes you wanna run out of the theatre to get fresh air.
