It is Funny or entertaining to make movies about Domestic Violence against Men?
Alia Bhatt is getting slammed on her debut as a producer of “Darlings“. The theme of the movie is a love story that turns into a marriage that ends up in domestic violence. After violence is faced by Alia, she decides to take a turn on the husband with the help of her mother, who is portrayed by Shefali Shah. Netizens decided to trend #boycottAliaBhatt and #BoycottDarlings on Twitter.
It’s more common than you think it is.
In a survey of a thousand married men ranging in age from 21 to 49 years old from Haryana, 52.4 percent of married men face gender-based violence. Emotional abuse (51.6%) physical abuse(6%).
“Violence of any kind is not permissible.” said Alia.
In an interview, Alia said “It really pains me to know that there are so many people who are fearful and living their life alone. That’s the biggest fear for so many women. How will I do everything alone? It’s difficult to say how a woman should react to an abusive relationship. They should ideally separate themselves from it and I think that’s what we’re trying to say through the film. You have your own identity, you have your own needs and what tends to happen in our society is that we are taught to put our partner’s needs before us. This is a representation of an abusive relationship between a man and wife, two life partners. But sometimes it can happen in other dynamics as well. Violence of any kind, when inflicted on an individual is not okay, it’s not permissible.”
