Even a month after its release, Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan is still the buzz in the theatres. The film grossed about Rs 1.09 crore on its 29th day across all languages, bringing its domestic gross to over Rs 518.06 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. Pathaan trails Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (Hindi), which smashed the record with over Rs 511 crore, by just Rs 502 crore net at the box office. Although Baahubali 2 (in Hindi), took 34 Days to reach the milestone, Pathaan (in Hindi), which smashed several records along the way, surpassed the $500 million mark on Day 28.
Shah Rukh Khan breaking Global Records
Pathaan’s current global revenue is Rs 1005, with approximately $46.5 million (Rs 384 crore) coming from outside. On its 27th day, the movie surpassed the Rs 1000 crore milestone, becoming the sixth Indian movie to do so, joining Dangal (Rs 1968.03 cr), RRR (Rs 1174 cr), Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (Rs 1747 cr), KGF: Chapter 2 (Rs 1188 cr).
Shah Rukh Khan starred in Pathaan, the highest-grossing Hindi film in every overseas market. Pathaan’s earnings in the US alone were over $16.8 million (Rs 139 crore). In addition, a number of Oscar-nominated films, such as TAR, Triangle of Sorrow, and Women Talking, all had combined US box office receipts of $15.4 million, yet Pathaan surpassed them.
Besharam Rang’s controversy
Bollywood is feeling relieved as it recovers from a terrible 2022 when many high-budget movies bombed at the box office. This is thanks to Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan’s exceptional triumph. Similar to Laal Singh Chaddha, controversy dogged Pathaan before it ever hit theatres.
The song “Besharam Rang” received criticism for purportedly hurting the feelings of a particular audience segment. Despite this, the movie managed to weather the storm and had the greatest opening for a Bollywood film, grossing over Rs 57 crore. The release of Kartik Aaryan’s Shehzada, which seems to be underperforming at the box office, had little impact on Pathaan.
King Khan for a reason
Bollywood is relieved as it rebounds from a disastrous 2022, during which many expensive films flopped at the box office. This is due to Pathaan’s extraordinary victory. Like Laal Singh Chaddha, controversy followed Pathaan even before it was released in theatres.
The song “Besharam Rang” came under fire for allegedly offending a certain audience group. Despite this, the picture was able to weather the storm and had the best debut of any Bollywood production, earning nearly Rs 57 crore. Pathaan wasn’t much impacted by the release of Kartik Aaryan’s Shehzada, which appears to be failing at the box office.
