Vir Das: FIR registered against the actor and Netflix in Mumbai, due to copyright allegations

A complaint filed against the actor-comedian Vir Das. The complaint is about the copyright issue. The same happened with the actor before.

Stand-up comedian and actor Vir Das troubles are not going less. After Bengaluru, now a complaint has been filed against the comedian in Mumbai. According to information received from the news agency. Mumbai police has registered an FIR against the actor, two other persons and online streaming platform Netflix for violating copyright rules.

Who filed the complaint against Vir Das?

Renowned theatre producer Ashwin Gidwani, during his complaint to the police, said that in October 2010 his company had signed a contract with Vir Das to produce a show. Then everything went well. However, when he saw the promo of Vir Das`s new show on Netflix in January 2020, he realized that some of the content of the show matched his show.

Will there be arrest soon?

Based on a complaint by Ashwin Gidwani, a case was registered against the actor. An Officer of Cuff Parade police station said that, there has not been any arrest till now in this case. Let us tell you that, a complaint was filed against Netflix, the actor and two other persons for copyright allegations. However, the police is probing the matter. The case was register against them on November 4.

Why the complaint filed in Bengaluru against Vir Das?

Right-wing group ‘Hindu Janajagruti Samriti’ has filed a complaint against stand-up comedian Vir Das`s show held in Bengaluru. On Monday, the committee reached the police and asked to cancel the show. The committee alleges that the comedian show will hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus and tarnish the image of India across the world.  However the committee has lodged a complaint in this regard at Vyalikaval police station.

Vir Das and renowned theatrical producer Ashwin Gidwani signed a contract for the production of a play in October 2010. According to Gidwani’s police complaint. Next, everything went well. However, he discovered that part of the content of Vir Das’s new programme on Netflix. In January 2020 mirrored his show when he watched the trailer for it.
