South superstar and MNS (Makkal Needhi Maiam) party president Kamal Haasan participated in the Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Delhi on December 24. During this, both the Raj leaders discussed many issues including politics, sugar and also Kamal Haasan talked about his idea of making his film ‘Hey Ram’ from Banana Bapu (Mahatma Gandhi) to saying sorry.

Kamal Haasan and Rahul Gandhi met again after a full week of the visit. During this meeting, actor and Rahul Gandhi discussed many issues and explained the reason for making their film ‘Hey Ram Bapu’. Kamal tells during the conversation that, ‘When I was a teenager, my upbringing had made me a bitter critic of Gandhiji’. But when Kamal was 24-25 years old, he had a desire to know about Mahatma Gandhi and he did a lot of research about him and soon became an admirer of his principles.
Revealed the reason for making ‘Hey Ram’
Taking the conversation forward, Kamal says, the reason for making the film ‘Hey Ram’ Bapu was to apologize to Mahatma Gandhi. And to rectify myself, I made the film Hey Ram. The film depicts the story of an assassin who wants to kill Gandhiji. But as he gets closer to that person, he changes. This is the story of that film. This was my way of apologizing to Bapu. I think the worst form of criticism is murder. Only cowards can do this.
